While Karly was busy honing her skills for the zombie apocalypse, I jumped in to count down the top five zombie, pandemic, and apocalyptic films from the past 20 years.

By MrBeach83 [CC SA-3.0], via Wikimedia Commons
#5. Resident Evil (2002) and Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) - In my not-so-humble opinion, the first two films are the only ones worth watching from the franchise. Even if you're not a fan of zombie films and/or didn't play the video games, you should still check out this film. Alice, played by the stunning Milla Jovovich, is such a kickass heroine.

#4. The Road (2009) - There's so much desolation and brutality in this film, but the injections of tender flashbacks and merciful moments are what make it stand out among its contemporaries.

#3. Land of the Dead (2005) - We're not saying there will be a zombie apocalypse - but if there ever is one, you'll want a vehicle like Dead Reckoning. It's heavily armored and armed with remote-controlled machine guns, video cameras, and even fireworks. Because zombies love those fireworks, folks.

#2. 28 Days Later (2002) - This film does a great job of setting the scary, creepy tone before you even see one zombie / infected person. That's quite a tall feat, so it deserves praise for that alone - in addition to the excellent performances by Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris.

#1. 12 Monkeys (1995) - What happens when you combine an outstanding script with a perfect cast? 12 Monkeys. If you haven't seen this movie, stop what you're doing right now and go watch it. NOW.

Episode #29 aired yesterday and in it, I was feeling quite under the weather. Since yesterday morning, I've received a heartwarming and impressive amount of inquiries, well wishes, and questions. I'm touched and I thought i'd pen a quick response for everyone to say "thank you" and to answer some of the questions I am consistently getting.

What am I dealing with and what is Cortisol? This seems to be the question i'm getting repeatedly.
Cortisol is a steroid hormone in the blood which is released in response to stress. When your body is under chronic stress, you're levels remain high and I apparently have a dangerously high amount of it (Irony, considering my post last week and proof that managing stress is important for your overall health.)

According to some of the professional medically trained
listeners who have been messaging me on twitter - it's nothing to take lightly. (Again, thank you for the concern).

Sadly, even though I should know better, I've already made the rookie mistake of terrorizing myself on Web MD again and for everyone who keeps insisting I need to take it very seriously, just know that I am, but for the love of god the next person who tells me something like "you're lucky your kidney's haven't failed" is getting a punch in theirs.

It's interesting though, you don't really realize how under the weather you are feeling until you start feeling better.  I'd say currently the only draw back is that I generally don't like being poked with so many needles and everything that the doc's been giving me to correct the situation has turned me into a moody-messy-psycho-basketcase unable to regulate my own emotions. Seriously. I can't even deal with myself. You know that episode of How I Met Your Mother where Lily and Marshall breakup? That had me in tears for a good half hour. And I already knew they get back together. And get married. And have a baby.

Jamie's been a real gem. When this is over, I'm certain that I owe him something shiny and pretty. And big. Maybe electronic. (What gift says "sorry for my unprovoked nervous breakdown over your inability to close the cereal box to my preference"?)

Once again, I appreciate everyone taking time to reach out and am overwhelmed by the amount of concern everyone has shown. It's heartwarming. A million thank you's to you all. Don't worry, i'll be back good as new in no time.

#5. Don't be afraid to dream big
Everything starts with a dream. Many never achieve their full potential because they think that what they really want is impossible to achieve. But it's not, you have to dream and then go for it.

from flavorwire.com
#4. Explore, don't climb
Gone are the days of "climbing the corporate ladder". Sandberg insists you shouldn't focus on moving up but rather explore opportunities in all directions. Forging a unique path will present you with a better chance for fulfillment.

#3. Seek and speak the truth
Honesty in communication is the best kind of communication. Learning to communicate in an honest manner without hurting anyone's feelings will be an invaluable skill. Seek people who are honest with you about your abilities as well. It is the only way to improve them.

#2.  Know that you can't do it all
There's a difference between leaning in and trying to take on too much. Take stock of what you want in life, in your career, in your home life, and in your romantic life. Decide what you are willing to sacrifice and what you are willing to protect. You'll never be able to have it all.

#1. Speak up and work together
Share your experiences and encourage others to share theirs. Be happy for other people's success just like you'd hope that they would be happy for yours. Learning to work together instead of against each other is an invaluable skill.

Good News! There are some vices that are actually good for you. Karly Kingsley's counting down her five favorites:

#5. Sleeping - We, as a society, don't get nearly as much sleep as we should. A good night's rest can boost your immune system and memory, as well as help you keep trim.

#4. Playing Hooky - A mental health day here and there can do you some real good; taking time for yourself is a great way to relieve stress.
By Daniela [CC BY-2.0], via Wikimedia Commons

#3. Coffee / Caffeine - There's a wealth of research that suggests coffee doesn't just pick you up, it can also fight heart disease and cancer and help you power through a harder and longer workout.

#2. Massages - Don't feel guilty about shelling out for a rubdown. A massage can alleviate stress, anxiety, depression, anger, and so on.

#1. Wine - Wine does have a lot of heart-healthy properties to it. Moderation is key, but one 5 oz. glass a day can be good for you.

Boobs can be fun, but they can also be serious and breast cancer is no laughing matter. Here are five ways to reduce your risk of breast cancer:

from www.boston.com
#5 - I hate to say it but keep the cocktails to a minimum. A study in 2007 has linked breast cancer incidents and alcohol consumption.

#4 - Eat a healthy diet: Cook meals from scratch, limit the deep fat frying, and load up on healthy fruits, vegetables, nuts etc. Aim for nutrient packed foods and smaller meals. Also heat your food in a healthy manner. Avoid using plastic containers in the microwave and enamel coated pans on the stove which may emit a harmful chemical at high temperatures.

#3 - Get enough sleep: Sleeping aids the body in repairing itself. Make sure you're catching enough Zzz's

#2 - Exercise regularly: Studies say you should aim for about 3-4 hours a week of exercise but more is certainly better.

#1 - Find your healthy weight and maintain it: Extra fat cells can increase your risk of cancer. Strive to maintain a healthy weight through a proper diet and exercise.

This last episode has got the wheels turning in my head about people and their beauty/health rituals. One of the latest trends seems to be something that is a little, well, non-traditional, and has me very, very curious. That trend would be oil pulling.

For those who have no clue what oil pulling is, it is the simple practice of swishing an oil (usually coconut or sesame oil) in your mouth, much like you would mouthwash, and then spitting it out - Normally you're instructed to swish for about twenty minutes.

Truth be told, I have yet to try oil pulling. I like to do a little research before I dedicate a whole twenty minutes to something. Especially when that something requires holding liquid in your mouth for lengthy periods of time without swallowing or drooling on yourself.

I'm curious.

Have any of you, my fantastic TVP readers, tried oil pulling? Is it all it's cracked up to be? Is oil pulling going to go the way of Tamagotchis and pet rocks or is it here to stay?

I did my homework; I took notes. I searched to the ends of the earth to compile as much data as I could to be analyzed by me and my team of experts. We slaved laboriously over mountains of testimony.

Actually, really, I just "googled" it and clicked on the first few links.

The Pros (or kinda pro's?): It seems the general consensus for those who are pro-oil pulling have listed positive outcomes in relieving symptoms of migraines, headaches, asthma, diabetes mellitus, acne...and the bonus is that it helps to brighten up those pearly whites in your mouth, decrease dental plaque, . However, most who tout these benefits seem to also give the disclaimer that these "facts" are unsupported by any scientific research or data.

The Cons: Oil pulling can lead to lipid pneumonia (from inhaling oil into the bronchial tree). And that's just no fun for anyone. The other downside is that the only thing that people can agree on is that their isn't enough scientific data to really agree on anything.

My curiosity is killing me but I have to admit - it's more of a curiosity about how this trend is actually becoming so popular. Is it's (dare I say) ridiculousness that is causing this "health trend" to blaze a trail across the internet? While I do try and make it a habit of trying anything that promises to cure a hangover right quick, I think I'll save my oral hygiene habits for toothpaste and mouthwash and I'll leave the job of detoxification to those little guys named my liver and kidney because hey, no one wants to be out of a job in this economy and they've done just fine for me this far.

Getting serious though, if you've tried oil pulling, let me know your thoughts. I'm all ears, sometimes even for more than 20 minutes.

Everyone has moments where she/he/it doesn't feel like they're "enough." The media, and our collective society, is obsessed with the idea of perfection, whether it's pushing unrealistic standards for physical attractiveness to dictating what hobbies/interests are most desirable, and so on.

Here at The Vodka Press, we're all about shattering those notions and encouraging people to question the norms and appreciate who they are inside and out - that's why we decided to tackle these issues (for both women and men) in EP #23: The Attraction of Beautification and Beardification.

As a followup, Karly Kingsley and Zoe Grimm chatted with author Jennifer Tress, via Skype, to discuss her book You're Not Pretty Enough as well as societal attitudes towards what is and isn't considered beautiful, acceptable, and ideal.

You can listen to the interview below:

Jennifer Tress is an amazing woman, and the stories she shares in You're Not Pretty Enough are truly inspiring. If you don't have a copy, we highly recommend you get one ASAP! You can find You're Not Pretty Enough on amazon.com. And check out Jennifer's website, www.yourenotprettyenough.com; you can find out what upcoming events she'll be speaking at, share your own 'not [pretty/smart/etc.] enough' story, and more.

For this week's episode, we watched two movies, the dark comedy "Sexy Evil Genius," and the documentary "Hungry for Change," and while the first movie was a good flick, it's the second that I really urge everyone to sit down and take the time to watch.

www.imdb.com
From IMDB: HUNGRY FOR CHANGE exposes shocking secrets the diet, weight loss and food industries don't want you to know about deceptive strategies designed to keep you coming back for more. Find out what's keeping you from having the body and health you deserve.

The documentary went in depth about our countries struggle with a silent killer: sugar.

Five Shocking Facts about Sugar:

#5. Studies have shown that sugar is more addictive than heroin - In fact, this film adds that it is an opiate, or a morphine-like substance. In the 1900's people consumed about 15 grams of sugar a day. Now, people are consuming between 28-150 grams per day because it is hidden in our food.

#4. Sugar promotes belly fat - Adolescent obesity rates have tripled in the last 30 years and childhood obesity has doubled and one of the culprits that has caused this may be the fructose-laden beverages more people are consuming. A 2010 study found that excess fructose intake actually caused fat cells to mature.

#3. Sugar hides in many everyday "non-sugar" foods - While many strive to avoid the "normal" sugary culprits (candy, cookies, cake, etc.), they often are duped when they discover some of their favorite foods also contain lots of sugar like tomato sauce, fat free dressing, tonic water, marinates, crackers and even bread.

#2. Sugar and alcohol have similar toxic liver effects on the body - There has been evidence that shows that fructose and glucose in excess can have the same toxic effect on the liver as the metabolism of ethanol -- the alcohol contained in alcoholic beverages had similarities to the metabolic pathways that fructose took. Further, sugar increased the risk for several of the same chronic conditions that alcohol was responsible for.

#1. Sugar may sap your brain power - Sugar has been known to accelerate the aging process. Aging of the cells consequently can be the cause of something as simple as wrinkles to something as dire as chronic disease but there is other alarming evidence that sugar may affect the aging of your brain as well. A 2009 study in rats found that excess sugar consumption was linked to deficiencies in memory and overall cognitive health.

Many fans requested that we do a Power Hour or a drinking game EP during this season of The Vodka Press podcast. We love to give the fans what they want, so we've decided to do both...in the same episode.

That's right - on this week's episode of The Vodka Press, we'll be doing a Power Hour and also trying out the drinking game.

For those folks who haven't done a Power Hour before, it's "a drinking game that involves drinking a shot of alcohol each minute for an hour" (definition from this pghcitypaper.com article). In our TVP variation, Kit, Karly, and I are doing a swig a minute of our chosen drinks.

As for the TVP drinking game, we're using some fan suggestions from my last fan comments post. The 'drink' words are:
  • exciting
  • perpetuate/perpetually
  • sex/sexy
  • hitting the nail on the head
  • anytime anyone mentions her boyfriend
  • anytime anyone mentions Karly's cat, the pretty princess Leia
Tune in to The Vodka Press on Wednesday for my official teaser for this episode - I'll be sharing more details about the EP including what films we'll be reviewing. You can listen to it on iTunes, Stitcher Radio, and/or directly from our show's site. On Wednesday night, I'll be posting recipes for the official TVP Powerades right here on www.thevodkapress.com.

For those of you who think that Google is nothing more than a search engine and a map to find your nearest Starbucks, well, you'd be wrong. Google is a giant that I truly believe will rule the world someday (if it already doesn't). Below are five research and development projects and companies that Google has it's hand in. And there's plenty more where that came from;

#5. Driverless Cars - It makes perfect sense that the company who is widely known for their maps and their street-level data make cars that can take you places without you having to do a thing.

#4 Elevators to Space - Yup. You read that right. Google X is one of the many companies that are looking to make it easier to leave the earths atmosphere without the use of rocket propulsion. The idea is to run a ribbon from Earth to a counterweight in orbit that allows easy access for experiments and other adventures and ventures. In fact, some believe that we could have these space elevators up and running in less than a decade.

#3 Temperature based projects - Climate Change Insurance and Smart thermostats. - One of the companies in Google's portfolio is The Climate Corporation which sells weather insurance for farmers to protect their businesses from increasingly unpredictable conditions and extreme weather. It's a noble cause. Without farms, we don't feed ourselves. Google is also developing smart thermostats which will be a system that learns the best way to keep your home just the way you like it while also saving on energy.

#2 Cancer Treatments - Having lost relatives and friends to this ugly disease, I'm very happy to see that Google is taking on this battle. Google Ventures put some money into "Foundation Medicine" which combines genomic and molecular data to create a new approach to cancer care.

#1 Predicting the future - Google is all about the future, that's no secret. They've invested in a company called Recorded Future which seeks to collect and analyze data and information that is available online for clues about what's to come.

This week I was shocked to find out just how much women are at risk for stroke and heart disease. Quick and easy - My top five this week are tips to prevent stroke and heart disease.

#5 - Take responsibility for your own health and seek to educate yourself - the best way to prevent something from happening is to understand why it could happen and what your best options are for preventing it from happening.

www.marilushow.com
#4 - Don't smoke or expose yourself to second hand smoke - There is overwhelming evidence that cigarette smoking and second-hand smoke increases the risks of heart disease, lung disease, peripheral vascular disease and stroke.

#3 - Limit your calories - Fad diets don't work. I think we can all easily agree on that one. However, portion size in America has increased dramatically and with it, so has the calorie count of our meals. The obesity rate in America is a cause for concern and is the leading cause of diabetes which is a cardiovascular disease and can contribute to the risk of stroke and heart attack. Use portion control, limit soda - (1 soda or sugary beverage a day increases women's risk of stroke and heart attack by 83%), drink more water, and stop eating when you are full.

#2 -  Seek ways to reduce your stress - Stress is one of the leading contributors to heart disease and stroke. You can reduce stress by seeking to balance your work/home life, seek to have good relationships, get a good nights sleep, find things that make you laugh, and understand why certain situations make you anxious.

#1 - Make exercise a daily habit - The best thing you can do for yourself is to get a good exercise regimen going. Studies show that walking 2 miles a day is good for optimal health. Exercise is for more than burning calories - it activates genes that are beneficial to health in other ways. Plus, exercise is also great for treating anxiety and depression (which can be major stress causers).

Self-improvement is something, in my opinion, that a lot of people should take more seriously and, we're all in luck, there's a lot of great apps to facilitate the personal growth in all of us.

#5. Gympact - Gympact is a really cool app for motivating you to get your butt back to the gym for that workout you promised yourself that you were going to get in. Here's how it works: You promise a dollar amount for your workouts, for example: 2 dollars. If you miss your workout, you're fined the 2 dollars. The best part of the app is that if you make your workouts, you get a cut from the fines that the people who didn't make their workouts paid. There's nothing like a financial incentive to get you motivated!

www.skiptomylou.org
#4. Evernote - If you're like me, always on the go, but always having a thousand ideas and thoughts in your head, than Evernote is a company for you. They have a ton of different products, especially apps, that help you work smarter and stay organized. Their best app is their simple evernote app, it allows you to write down, organize, and sync your thoughts, to-do lists, and ideas no matter where you are.

#3. Lift - Lift is an app that wants to help you "succeed at everything" by "unlocking your potential" and "changing your life" Whether you have small goals or big ones, lift helps you keep track of them by giving you steps to achieve your goals and milestones to help keep you motivated and celebrate your small or large achievements. The other great thing about this app is the daily motivations and community support that it provides.

#2. Live Happy - Live Happy is a "happiness boosting positive psychology program," developed by Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky and a research team. Lyubomirsky wrote the book "The How of Happiness," and is also a professor of psychology at the University of California, Riverside..meaning..you should probably check it out because it sounds like she knows her stuff ;)

#1. The Habit Factor - Habits are the hardest thing to change but the most necessary thing to change if its personal growth you're looking for. The Habit Factor is inspired by the book of the same name and is the #1 downloaded goals and habits app. It helps you track your goals and your progress and is really easy to use.

This episode was packed with information, opinions, and thoughts on non-traditional relationships. It really got me thinking and so with a little bit of internet surfing I came across the site www.morethantwo.com. They have a great glossary of terms for people who aren't exactly sure about all the phrases and terms being thrown out there.

The following are five terms that I thought were interesting, fun, and fun to say:

vi.sualize.us
#5 Boston Marriage: This is an archaic term which was used primarily in the 19th century to describe a household of 2 unmarried women who were financially and otherwise independent. Today it's generally presumed that these were lesbian relationships. It's the fact that this term is so antiquated that caught my eye - plus any term with the word "Boston," in it will always catch my eye.

#4 Closed Swinging: A practice in which a group of swingers will exchange partners and then have sex separately. Usually in separate rooms. Alright, listen, I'm naïve when it comes to these kind of things so the fact that there's so many different shades of "swinging is something that has fascinated me.

#3 Frubble: A pleasant emotion of happiness arising from seeing one's partner with another partner. Face it, frubble is just a fun word to say.

#2 Key Party: A specific type of play party usually attended by couples. The male deposits his keys in a container when he arrives and as the guests leave the female draws a set of keys at random from the container and whoever the key belongs to is whoever goes home together. That sounds like a very interesting party.

#1 Puppy-Pile-Poly: This is a colloquial for polyamorous relationships in which all people involved are to some degree physically and/or romantically involved with one another, with the implication that the people involved may share sex and/or sleeping space (hence, "all in one puppy pile"). It's number one because alliteration is fun.

The Men of TVP, (Matt, Tyler, and Jamie) sat down to discuss their respective girlfriends with answers about Valentine's Day, first dates, attractive qualities, and the age old burning question: What did it take to bag a girl like Karly, Kit, or Zoe?

www.techblogstop.com
Tyler:

The first thing that ever really attracted me to Kit Bangles was something she did in the bar she worked at in Portland, OR.

I had just knocked off from the restaurant I worked at up the street and stopped in for a shot and a beer, which was my ritual on the way home at the time. I had always thought she was very cute, rather smart, and had an amazing laugh, but I'd never really seen her be fierce.

That night there was some guy at the bar being rather rude and she threw him out.

I have never been so smitten.

He was at least twice her size, but literally had none of her fire. She took his drink from him immediately after he ordered it, dumped it out, and gave the dude the bums rush out the door. Suddenly I was in the presence of the tiniest Amazon I have ever seen. I sat at the bar the rest of the night silently crushing on this girl like a 3rd grader.

In the end it paid off. I don't know how many months later. She asked me out. I guess. Sort of.

We have birthday that are really close, like within 10 days of each other. On the night of her birthday Kit Bangles went out in style. There was lots of drinking, lots of partying, and I guess someone poured her into a taxi.

Somewhere in all of that she left her phone number at the bar she worked in...for me.

The thing is I never got it. It was a Friday, and I usually stopped in at our old bar for a drink to unwind after the craziness of a Friday dinner service. This was the one, seriously, the one Friday I didn't stop that month.

A few days go by and I'm off on a Wednesday and headed to band practice. Since I also happened to live close to Kit's work I stopped in for a drink on the way.

We chat.

We trade stories about how the weekend went. She mentions it was her birthday. I laugh and mention that's pretty rad because mine is coming up. She made sure to ply me with at least three shots and then told me she did something really stupid. I took the bait and asked her what. She tells me she left her number for me here at the bar and that I never came in while it was still there.

I'm floored.

What could this incredibly attractive, smart, funny, drop dead awesome bartender want with a scruffy looking nerf herder like me? I asked her if I could still have it, she giggled and said sure. I promptly pocketed it and had to jet for the bus. I think I texted her like 3 times before I realized I had I had copied her number wrongly into my phone. The rest. as they say, is pretty much history.

And I apologize to who ever got those texts, as i'm sure they were rather, uh, forward.

As far as a first date, well I feel like we've had very few "dates" as it is. I'm not even sure what qualifies as a "first" date anymore. She walked me home one night after an employee part her bar thre. I think that was the first or second time she slept over. I remember the first night I met her cat, I couldn't ever possibly believe a cat could be that loud or such a persistent ball of "Mreow!" Those probably aren't dates, but they're good milestones.

thesanantonioriverwalk.com
One time she came home with me in the rain. She didn't have a rain jacket so I gave her mine. I wore a trash bag the entire walk home, and i'd do it again in a heart beat. There's photographic proof somewhere, I just don't know where.

I can't really say that there's any one thing that is the sweetest Kit Bangles has ever done for me. I remember one time after, or maybe during a very brutal dinner service, she brought me gummy worms, some stuff from Whole Foods, and a Kombucha.

That was amazing. I think I survived that night because of that. She sent me the most beautiful set of lillies once.

She likes to hold me, even when I act like I don't want to be held, but she knows that I do and i'm just being surly. She sees things inside me better than I do. She has a laugh that is almost like a cackle, but not in a maniacal way. It's playful and spritely. She moves like bambi on roller skates.

These are all qualities I find deeply attractive in her, but mostly, I just love that she loves me and the way she squeaks in bed when she burrows under the covers. We don't need pets for cute noises, we have each other.

Being a TVP boyfriend is interesting. It's weird to know that people are talking about you out there. And not in a bad way. I just never though part of my personal life, aside from whatever gets posted on Facebook, would be out in a public place. Maybe it just feels that way cause I don't keep up with TVP as much as I'd like. Up until 5 weeks ago I was so busy with work I usually had one day to do laundry, catch up on whatever I wanted to catch up on, grocery shop, and sleep as much as possible.

Ultimately, I would like to listen to more of the show's episodes and keep up with the blog more, just so I can be in the know, but none of it really bothers me. It's really through talking and sharing that anyone is going to make any progress in anything involving life, love, and relationships. So let's keep an open dialogue! And if it came up I would gladly participate in a TVP discussion, podcast, or blog. I reckon i'm doing that right now.

I'd do a men of TVP calendar if the chance arose. Think about it.

This being the first Valentines Day that Kit and I have ever spent together, I'm trying to keep expectations low and easy. She's been super busy lately and I haven't, so I figure why not make this easy.

I just want a couple bottles of wine, some good pizza, some snuggles, and some movie watching. Maybe Mean Girls or something along those lines.

I'd also be down for attempting to make up last Valentines Day to her if she'd let me. I'm sure I can think of some fun things, but i'm not exactly sure I should write them here, or that I possess the vocabulary to describe everything that i'd like to see go down. There's a lot of angles I don't know the names of. Never was too good with geometry, but you get the idea.

Happy Valentines Day TVP readers!

Jamie:

What first attracted me about Karly was the fact that I felt intellectually challenged for the first time in a long time because that's what you get from Karly. It kind of lit a fire in me because I felt like there was someone that I could talk to and actually be on the same level with instead of just having someone agree with me all the time and it kind of grew from there. I just felt like our energies were the most, I don't want to say compatible, but I guess the most like each other.

There wasn't any instant moment where you can pinpoint where we got together. It was a long term thing that happened gradually, i'm guessing because I never thought that she would actually be achievable so I never put any serious thought into it. Plus, in the beginning she flat out told me that it would never happen....so there was that.

Even though we don't have an exact moment, we had a lot of little moments where I just fell in love.

One of the first times was when there was a snow storm outside. I was the sous chef in a restaurant at the time and while everyone else got to stay home I had to go to work six hours early and I was pissed but then she ended up coming in to visit me. I made her macaroni and cheese and she told me to stop acting like a prom queen who got dumped on prom night and it snapped me right out of being pissed....because fair...I was stuck there and I was acting like a bitch...even though I had just fed her mac and cheese there was something about her brutal honesty that I hadn't seen before.

I think a major turning point was another snowstorm. We both worked at the same restaurant and everyone got to stay home but us. We didn't have a single customer that day while two feet of snow piled up outside and our boss refused to let us go home. We sat at the corner of the bar all day and just talked and got to know each other. I guess snowstorms are our kind of thing.

Still though, there was no "asking anyone out." It just kinda happened. We worked together and spent a lot of time together. We never really went on a first date or anything. We kinda skipped a bunch of steps and somehow ended up living together.

One of the things that's most attractive about Karly is...do boobs work? Her eyes? No? Okay..the challenge. The fact that what I say doesn't always go and I like it. I like not getting yessed and I like having someone to bounce ideas around with. You'll never get yessed with Karly if you don't deserve it. I don't like people who are fake and Karly definitely is not. She's about as real as they come. I don't know why that's so attractive, it just is. It's more of what I feel than what I can put into words.

As for being a TVP boyfriend, to be honest, I don't believe I've ever listened to an entire episode. I'm truly glad she has an outlet to express her opinions whether they're intellectual, logical, or just for fun and entertainment. The one thing I know for sure is that it will always be honest and straight forward. She rarely {if ever} "sugar coats" anything. The greatest thing about her is you will always know where you stand. From someone who has been around the block, it is quite a different world. We live in a world of conformists, cliques, and popularity contests. It is refreshing to have someone understand and see through the majority of the BS and not be afraid to call it out.

Of course I would participate in TVP, I am and have. I love the fact she has her own thing, but like her, if asked my opinion; you'll get it. And most of the time I'm appreciative of anyone willing to listen.

As for what's in store for Valentines Day, unfortunately the "romance fairy" completely missed me with her magic dust. I don't need much from Karly. I'm happy because I know, no matter what day it is, she pays attention to even my smallest of needs and does her best to make sure i'm happy. I wish I could say the same, but I am well aware I don't deserve her and try my best and just hope she feels at least half as much for me as I do for her. I will never be able to express and show as much love as she deserves. But I do know that if anyone can show me the light, it's her. I have never known love like this and could never replace it. You ask what I want for Valentine's Day. I say every day she is in my life is Valentine's Day. She is my gift, my bright and shining star, my love and hopefully, my forever.

Matt:

I was smitten with Zoe the first time I met her.

My friend Tom had invited me to attend Pax East with him and one of his gaming buddies. I went there expecting Tom's gaming buddy to be a stereotypical nerdy, geeky dude (like Tom was). Instead, his friend was this gorgeous brunette in a leather miniskirt. Yeah, I was strongly physically attracted to Zoe, because who wouldn't be? But as we went about the day, she dazzled me with her intelligence, sense of humor, and kindness to others. She was so polite, so gracious, and so humble. I think I was smiling like an idiot the entire time, except for when she gave me a hug at the end of it. I think then I was blushing and trying not to get a stiffy.

I asked our friend Tom for her number, which he gave me, and I called her up the next day to ask her out. Zoe turned me down, and I was crushed. But a few days later she called me to invite me to their next gaming meetup at her place. I went, and I tried not to crowd her but I was really there for her, to see her. And I think she knew it, because at the end of the night she asked me if I wanted to stay. I knew it wasn't a sexual thing, and that was fine with me, I was happy just to spend more time with her.

I helped her clean up the apartment (because yeah gamers are kind of a messy bunch), and then we sat down on the couch with glasses of wine. We stayed up all night talking, and god it was tough to resist the urge to kiss her but somehow I did it. And I think she knew that, too, because when I finally realized the time and told her I had to go, she asked me out. I couldn't resist giving her a hard time and said something along the lings of "but I thought you didn't want to go on a date with me."

I'll never forget her response: "I tried fighting my attraction to you, but as you can see, it didn't work. We're very different, and I'm not sure if I'd be good for you, but I'd like the chance to be. Because I think you're beautiful inside and out, and I think I'd regret it forever if I don't give us a try."

We went out for Italian the next night. Everything was great until the end of the night. I'd had tiramisu for dessert, and when I went to kiss Zoe goodnight, she put a hand over my mouth to stop me. When she informed me we couldn't kiss because I'd eaten something with chocolate, which she's allergic to, I was crushed. But then she leaned up and kissed my jaw, letting her lips linger a bit. It was SO hot.

Next date I avoided the chocolate, and I got my goodnight kiss. It was perfect.

Being a "TVP" boyfriend is never boring. I do follow the blog and show, I'm very proud of Zoe and all she does.

What some people may not realize is how much Zoe involves me in the behind-the-scenes Vodka Press business. She let's me sit in while she's editing episodes and when she's recording her break segments. Nothing beats when Zoe records her Flirtini and drink break recipes. She does them at my place, usually while she's dressed in one of my button downs (and nothing else). There's a lot of outtakes that go on because I can't resist touching her or teasing at her while she's doing them. Zoe's not the only who likes to tease, you know.

If any talk of us comes up either in one of her blog posts or on the show, she asks me how I feel about it and, if I'm not comfortable with something, she'll take it out or rework it. That of course includes talk about our sex life. In a way, I'm a part of the team, a silent part of the team, and it's really cool.

Behind-the-scenes for both the show and blog, I would certainly participate in the future. It makes me feel special when she includes me in things.

I'd probably write something again for the blog if Zoe asked, but I don't know about being on the show. Maybe. But be warned, I do not have a radio voice.

If I had to pick the most romantic thing Zoe's ever done for me, I'd say it's when she wrote me a really beautiful, romantic poem for our 6 month anniversary. I'd share it here but I'd hate to incur her "death stare."

For this Valentine's Day, what would I want from her? A batch of her delicious bourbon ice cream and one of her world famous scalp massages...preferably while we're both naked in bed. Although honestly, I'd be happy with anything Zoe wanted to give me. This is our first Valentine's day together as a couple, and I'm excited to celebrate it with her.

Valentines Day Special: Matt, Tyler, and Jamie discuss Zoe, Kit, and Karly.

The Men of TVP, (Matt, Tyler, and Jamie) sat down to discuss their respective girlfriends with answers about Valentine's Day, first dates, attractive qualities, and the age old burning question: What did it take to bag a girl like Karly, Kit, or Zoe?
