Top Five for Episode #12: Five Body Modification Misconceptions

We spent a lot of EP #12 discussing the wonder that is body modification. Here are five misconceptions that most people have:

#5. People who modify their body worship the devil or are just generally bad people.
For many, modification is about self expression, art, or even spirituality. Remember - just because someone looks one way on the outside, it doesn't mean they have to be that way on the inside.

#4. People who modify their body are sexually promiscuous.
True, someone who modifies their body seems like they are more open to experimenting but seriously....just because someone likes tattoos and piercings, it doesn't mean they like to sleep around.

#3. People who modify their body love pain.
Getting a tattoo, a piercing, or surgically enhancing your body in someway no doubt is going to come with a little pain. Just because the process may be painful, it doesn't mean that person is in love with the pain. I'm partial to thinking most are more interested in the end result rather than the pain.

#2. It's a phase that someone will grow out of.
This has been the number one complaint that I've heard from body modifiers. For most, it's a way of life or a way that they feel good expressing themselves. They may change their piercings, tattoos, or enhancements up, but remember, even you aren't wearing the same clothes you wore as a teenager. Times changes and while the piercings may, it's still a lifestyle that most choose and stick with.

#1. There are no jobs for people who modify their body.
Yes, the job pool will unfortunately be more limited for those who modify, but that doesn't mean that there are no jobs available. There's jobs in the entertainment industry, as a musician, or as a tattoo artist just to name a few.

Remember, let's not judge a book by it's cover. We're all fighting a hard battle and we all want to express ourselves in the way we choose.
