Top Five for Episode #11: Top Five things I Want You to Know About Vices

I'm getting serious with the top five this week. We covered a lot of ground when it came to vices, particularly drinking and smoking. Here's five takeaways I want everyone to consider.

ayay.co.uk
#5 - Anything can be a vice - It doesn't necessarily have to be drinking, smoking, or doing drugs. Vices are things we indulge in or behaviors that we have that aren't necessarily good for us. Things like going to the gym or sleeping too much can be a vice.

#4 - Sometimes, your vices may get the best of you and you make take them a little too far. If you feel like you need more information, some support, or someone who understands you better, there are plenty of groups that you can join or places to go. Wikipedia has a great list of all different types of groups that you can join. Even if you're concerned for a friend or family member, there are groups like al-anon/alateen where you can go and learn about how you can help someone who is struggling.

#3 - Your vices don't define you. You don't have to fit into to stereotypes. If you smoke a little pot, that doesn't mean that you have to sit on your couch all day, without a job, being lazy, and eating a bag of potato chips and drinking a can of mountain dew.

#2 - Pills aren't a cure all - There are a lot of people who believe that if they take a pill - whatever it is that ails them will go away. This isn't so. Seek to understand what the real root of your problem is. Sure, a pill can help you while you're sorting things out or making changes, but it is not the solution.

#1 - You aren't alone. There are plenty of people who are just like you. Everyone is human and I guarantee you that everyone has some sort of vice. The trick is knowing when you are letting your vices overtake the rest of your life. Remember, everything in moderation but having a vice doesn't have to be a bad thing. It's okay to indulge every once in awhile.
